The Senufo or Senufo live between Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso. They live primarily from agriculture but also from hunting. Their villages are governed by a council of elders. The Poro society is the basis of the tribe's cohesion. From the age of 7, the Senufo are initiated and educated. Senufo theology is based on Koulotiolo, a powerful god, and Katielo, a mother goddess who rules the world. Senufo art was one of the first to be admired by Westerners. Their artistic production is abundant, and their masks and statues are characterized by a blend of realistic details combined with pure geometric forms. The Senufo use different types of masks depending on the occasion. The kpéliyée mask, worn by members of the Poro society, has a heart-shaped face surrounded by wings.

The Senufo created masks, statues, statuettes, fetishes, and a large number of objects with figurative forms: loom pulleys, walking sticks, ointment boxes, carved doors, and copper jewelry.
