ROMULUS

Born in Bouaflé, in central Côte d'Ivoire, where he lived until his teenage years. After the end of the 2011 post-election crisis, he enrolled in the Visual Arts program at the Abengourou Regional Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CRAMA). Later, he tried his luck in Abidjan, the country's economic capital, where he brilliantly passed the entrance exam for the Lycée d'Enseignement Artistique (Artistic High School), which he continued until graduating from high school, before pursuing higher education at the INSAAC School of Fine Arts. He honed his skills in Abidjan, notably with the Carré Noir collective, between 2012 and 2017.

Romulus draws his inspiration from his daily life and personal experiences. Proud of his African cultural heritage, he decided to use his art to convey his message and raise awareness among his peers. His work gradually leads him to question his environment, even exploring the origins and current status of ancestral African cultures, now decried by monotheistic religions.

Inspired by pointillism, Romulus expresses himself through a perpetual search for volume, mixing acrylic and glue to form an infinite number of drops and construct a world apart. By playing with textures and reliefs to give life to both relatable human figures and abstract forms adorned with African masks, the painter pushes the boundaries of our imagination, offering a completely different interpretation of our cultural and spiritual heritage. In his phantasmagorical universe, where masked figures mingle with religious symbols, he invites us to consider that our traditional customs and new religions can coexist harmoniously and enrich one another. Rich in color, a symbol of life and renewed hope, each of her works sketches a future where diversity is a strength and where everyone is free to think as they wish.
