Beads ans shells African Fali cache-sexe from Cameroon - height: 21cm - width: 39 cm - Age : +/- 40 years

Beautiful beaded and shell loincloth. These aprons were worn by women of the Fali ethnic group from the Mandara Mountains of Northern Cameroon for special occasions as part of a traditional costume. The designs are said to indicate marital status and clan affiliations. Each apron is woven onto a handle by a bead weaver, and great care is given to each piece. Aprons from the same clan or village have similar designs. The designs serve as a tribal emblem, and the triangular motifs are said to be feminine symbols.
